Every generation seems to do better than the previous one.
They are smarter (seems like it anyway :)), better off financially, achieve more, do more, see more, etc. And as importantly, they do all this quicker than the previous generation.
This isn't the absolute norm, but seems to be generally true - at least from what I have seen and experienced. Sometimes one generation misses out/doesn't make progress, but the next generation definitely does.
Isn't that how it IS supposed to work though?
Our grandparents worked really hard to make sure our parents had better lives than them (even though that generation wasn't as expressive and didn't take credit as much).
Our parents gave us (in my case, more my grandparents than parents) the base that we needed to thrive. And here we are. All grown up and accomplished and much sooner than our parents got to where they left off or retired. We are all tickled pink about who we are.
Have you thought about the fact that we owe a TON to our previous generations? Yes, we have put in the work, strategized, etc. and we are where we are and have what we have today. However, we wouldn't be here had it not been for all the thankless efforts of our previous generations.
Lets think big picture too. All the improvements, advancements, progress in the world has happened because of the work put in by people we have never seen or known - thinking Edison, Newton, Washington, MLK, Gandhi; the list is endless.
If I come back to just us again, I am incredibly grateful to my family - the multiple generations before me who have made me possible.
And I am filled with gratitude and awe for the countless people who made their lives better, and those who make mine better today - people we never see.
All I can do then is be and do my best, so people I don't see or know are somehow benefitted, in addition to those I do know and touch, especially my next generation. Lets do better for our next generation(s)!
